Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

Today we ran out of Dishwashing Detergent. I decided to go online to see if I could make an alternative until Thursday, our grocery store day. The girls got all excited that we were going to make our own, but we soon realized, we didn't have all the ingredients. We were missing the secret ingredient. Kool-Aid! We decided to make a quick run to the more expensive local grocery store where we were able to pick up 1o packets of the generic Kool-Aid for $1, on sale. The detergent was cheap and easy to make. Their are different recipes all over the internet. Here is the recipe...

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda

1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax

4 packets lemonade flavor

Store Brand Kool-Aid powder (unsweetened)

1/4 cup salt (Kosher salt recommended, but table salt is okay.)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and use 1 Tablespoon per cycle.

Use vinegar as rinse agents

We actually haven't tried it, yet. We will be using it after dinner this evening. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

*** Updated to say, so far so good! Dishes came out clean!
